A Rare Political Post

In my 18 months of blogging I've managed to avoid writing about politics entirely.
I rarely comment on political posts and although I do have my opinions I'm non-confrontational and tend to keep them to myself.

But not today.

But I'm so disturbed by two very expensive looking pieces of mail that were dropped in my mail box on Saturday that I just can't help it.

You can check them out for yourself if you like.

Just click and scroll down to learn how the Democratic party is responsible for the Holocaust, and is nothing but a pack of Nation of Islam belonging-Cindy Sheehan type-Radical nutjobs.

And don't ya'll worry about the war in Iraq, government corruptions, taxes, education, healthcare or unemployment. The Republican party knows that Jews in this country have developed some kind of electoral tunnel vision and can only see ONE issue when they vote.
Rest assured that if you vote for a Democrat this Tuesday Israel is as good as gone.

I am disgusted and insulted that not only was this propagana sent out TO my own people but that it was sent out BY my own people.

Ok.. go ahead...I've braced myself for the worst.

You won't hear any disagreement from me. Disgraceful and really insulting to our intelligence. But then it is politics we are talking about, and whoever sinks lower in the mud gets more points. This is why I am registered as an independent and avoid politics like the plague....

I agree with PT that both sides have had equally disgusting ads. The Dems portray the GOP as brutal bloodthirsty warmongers who want to conquer the world, grind the poor underfoot, love pollution for its own sake, etc. The GOP portrays the Dems as treasonous cowards who want to surrender the USA to Al-Kaida, force every pregnant woman to have an abortion, outlaw all religion, etc. Both sides have mocked and twisted each other's poistions to the point that rational debate on practically any subject has become impossible. I am honestly convinced that only an independent candidate has a chance to bring us back to sanity. Joe Lieberman in 2008!

Shifra,

I, too, have found myself posting on political topics these days. While I never said I wouldn't post on politics, I had never thought I'd have the need/want to, but I guess the election-time tension gets to even the best of us! Hope all is well with you!

I stay far away from politics these days. i find the bush haters to be stupid at best, irrational at worst. And they usually tend to irrational. no matter what you say, they respond with another hysterical nonanswer that does nothing but entrench their bland logic and fearmongering sophistry.

As for the Republicans....I find the hard right bozos to be so blinded to anything but what they hear on right wing radio and TV that they are uncomfortable to listen to. It is just so disconcerting to hear people so sure of their morality and superiority that I want to get as far away as possible.

I want the republican to retain both houses because by doing so, they can prevent the democrats from instituting four years of L'hachas Government. They are chomping at the bit to stick every last grievance into the faces of the Republicans.

It reminds me of the scene in Aladin where the Sultan and Jasmine are held captive to the evil Jafar who has taken control of the lamp and is not in charge. Nothing to contribute but revenge.

The republican deserve to have their asses kicked. But the alternative is probably less productive for our country.

By the way, if the Dems win control, they'll have won fair and square. If they lose, you'll hear nothing for the next decade about the stolen mid-term election of '06. Crybabies!

Granted that the ads on both sides are dumb and annoying...

Most jews for some reason (which is beyond me) have voted democratic. The ads are trying to get these democrats to actually think about the issues instead of just voting democratic because "that is what jews are supposed to do".

It is making clear that republicans are better for Israel then democrats. It's up to you to take that information and weigh it against all the other issues.

I think to government is in a bit of trouble, but I don't think the Dems have any better ideas. I live in a very Democratic state that ss soooo currupt it's disgusting. I can't imagine a whole country being run by the same people who run NJ. Also, very few people scare me more than Nancy Pelosi and Hillary Clinton, so I'd rather just stick with what we've got.

Charlie -

How many of those endorsements are for national positions in close races? (This is not a rehotorical question, I don't know the answer)

It is interesting that as a NY paper, they have views on the CT race, but not on the NJ one which is a closer race.

Most jews for some reason (which is beyond me) have voted democratic.

The reasons are mostly historical; i.e., the quip that Jews who only vote Democrat are still voting for FDR. However, it's equally foolish to vote blindly Republican as to vote blindly Democrat. Each candidate should be looked at individually. That's why those particular ads, aside from being single-issue focused scare tactics as Shifra notes, are also unhelpful to me. I don't want to know party statistics, I want to know about the specific candidates I have to choose from.

This election has proven to be the most appalling and meanly fought that I can remember.

But some of the offensive crap to which you directed my attention is truly staggering.

I do not intend to post about the election untill well after it is over - lest I say things about the Republicans that might, by their offensiveness, make some readers sympathize with them. Which would be counterproductive.

Today's top stories in Israel:

1. Radio debate between Democrat and Republican advocates (for Americans in Israel)

2. Chareidi Trash 'n Tire burning, stonings and Pulsa Denura curses put on Gay Pride parade organizers.

3. Israel is the number one target...for spam.

As usual, Shifra choses the top story to blog.

Yet another reason the watch this blog...

And that's why I'm voting Republican, because Joe Piscopo called my house TWICE over the weekend and I just wouldn't be a patriotic American were I to ignore a personalized gesture from such an esteemed American.

OTOH, Bill Clinton called me up also to remind me that it's my patriotic duty to vote for the Democratic party. However, he only called once so it looks like the Republicans are going to win this vote.

Give me a break.

bill clinton also called me 2 or 3 times in the last week. very flattering, but he didn't seem to be paying much attention to what i was saying. in that regard, he reminded me of george bush. on the other hand, george didn't care enough to call at all. he just sent me stuff in the mail. funny thing is, when i went to vote, neither one was on the ballot!

there was something about making english the official language, and i could almost follow the spanish version printed next to the english on the ballot. this sorta sounds good, like speed limit signs. probably equally effective, too!

less understandable is the fuss about gay marriage and stem cell research. you'd think the people who are against gay marriage would favor the stem cell research. stem cell research might offer a cure for biological basis of gay lust, who knows!

it's time to remember the old slogan, be careful what you ask for, you might get it!

i'll have a glass of crown royal, please!

DTC - Joe Piscopo only called my house once - but he said his name twice.
We have on our answering machine "this is Joe Piscopo - yes, JOE Piscopo! etc..." My kids asked "who is Joe Piscopo?!" Too funny.

Al Gore AND Bill Clinton called from the dem side.

I was amused by the NJDC response claiming that NJRC was undermining bipartisan support for Israel. So they show side by side pictures of Ronald Reagan with Menachem Begin and Bill Clinton with Binyamin Netanyahu.

Clinton as I recall spent most of Netanyahu's term in office working to undermine the Israeli leader. Using Clinton/Netanyahu as an example of bipartisan support for Israel is an example of wishful thinking.

I agree that the Neville Chamberlain ad was over the top. But the Sheehan/Sharpton ad? Go to the NJDC website, they're doing similar stuff and worse all the time.
