Axe Shifra
Yesterday I was informed, in the worst way possible, that the division I work for is closing and that I will no longer have a job. Since I don't like my job anyway you'd think this was great news. However I do enjoy living indoors and eating so having no job doesn't seem like a good option for me or my family.
At the moment I am unaware of how many days I have left here and I am setting up interview with other departments who might be interested in my services- nothing like pitching yourself to a company you've already been working for for years!
Deep breaths... Deep breaths...

what is the worst way possible to be informed?
Hopefully the situation won't last very long.
Hatzlacha rabba.
you never know what g-d has planned for you. Something else will surely come up (and hopefully better pay, better workplace, better people, etc.)...
What line of work are you in? I have been hearing about a few openings and would be happy to refer you.
I agree with Must; I hope something way better is waiting for you!
Best wishes on your job search. Remember though to look out for noisy speakerphone abusers before u accept a new position. Regardless, hope the process in pain free and u land something good or perhaps better soon. Hatzlachah!
Serenity now ... Serenity now ... (Seinfeld reference)
Best wishes and good luck. Be sure to inform your prospective employers that you're a great advice dispenser; I'd be happy to serve as a reference.
Air Time, from dilbert:
Pointy-haired Boss: Knock knock.
Employee: Who's there?
PHB: Not you anymore.
Oy. B'hatzlacha, Shifra. Hopefully this will lead to something far better.
We already talked off-line, but to reiterate, I'll do whatever I can to help. I've been there and it's scary and demoralizing. Don't let them get to you; they're not worth it.
AT- The worse possible way is via an off hand comment from a snippy secretary before your own boss even knows.
Must Gum - email me and we'll network.
Thank you to all the rest for your kind words.
Update: Today I was offered a much worse job for the same pay (longer hours, farther from home, dead end job, brainless boring work.)
Every time I think about accepting it I start to cry so I'm thinking I'll have to let this one pass....
Wow- that must have been quite a shock, Shifra! I am so sorry! There's no loyalty anymore in some companies. Good luck with your job hunting- I hope somethihng comes through quickly!
Oh, no! Should we pray for you? Is it "Shifro bas Basyo Yoche"?
shifra -
That totally sucks. I hope she got laid off too.
Ack Shifra!
Good luck finding a much better job than this one!
Hey Shifra,
I have been through that before. It is not fun, but don't let them get you down. You control your destiny, they don't.
I cant think of anything to say that hasn't been said above. I hope it works out for the best
Ditto to Dilbert
I just got hired, you just got fired. Where's the justice in that? I certainly hope that you'll be in my boat soon.
I can't blame you one bit for not wanting to take a job that offers nothing but "brainless boring work." Been there, done that. Several years ago, I was fired from a temp. job because, having spent an entire morning doing nothing but sorting magazines into piles (literally), I had the unmitigated chutzpah/gall to ask my boss for something *intelligent* to do. Most jobs require at least *some* "scut work," whether it's filing stacks of papers, completing forms, or whatever nonsense has to be done whether one wants to do it or not. But a job that's *100%* "scut work" is enough to drive many people crazy. Best of luck finding a job that requires the use of your brains. I'll keep you in mind when I davven.
Oy, Shifra, that's terrible! I'm so sorry to hear this news. And on top of everything else that's been going on lately, too. :( I don't know what I could do for you, except to sympathize, cuz I don't really have any connections or suggestions. But if you ever want to just scream, drop me a line on my blog and I'll give you my email or something.
best of luck.

I guess that makes last Wednesday, "Axe Wednesday"...
Shifra; I'm sure something even better will come up; just look at all the support you have in JBlogland!
Your key focus should be people networking, and I'm sure you'll find a job you'll be happy with.
Shavua tov!
I think it would have been much worse to come in and find out that they forgot to tell you, but your last working day was 2 days ago.
Good luck finding something new.
Sorry to hear that! I hope you find a new job soon. May it be much more fulfilling and rewarding than this one! You sound like a great person, fun to work with as well as creative and quite organised (from what I can tell). Keep your spirits up and I am sure you will find a company that appreciates your qualities and skills. B'hatzlacha!
oysh! how annoying. I'm so sorry and wish you lots of luck.
You guys are the best!
Axe Wednesday... I like it!
Tomorrow I will decide about taking the worse job while I look for something better. I think (based on my current financial situation) that I'll have to take it and just promise myself it's temporary. I've seen some cool jobs which I could definately do, online over the weekend, so it's giving me hope.
Thanks again for all your support. You guys totally rock.
hope this turns out to be a blessing for you!
let us know what happens.
Sorry I found this so late (don't know how I missed it) but I do want you to know that I am sure you'll be fine. These things work out, 99 percent of the time - often for the better.
