Ladies and Gentlemen- Place your bets!

Today the Godol Hador has announced (once again) that he is retiring in the near future.
This will make some people happy, like his wife, and the kannoim- although not for the same reasons. Other will be upset, disappointed, bewildered or bored once he's gone.

Here's the real question though- is GH ready to retire?
I think not! He's got a great thing going and he'd be a fool to abandon it regardless of whether or not he loses his anonymity.

So place your bets here today folks- then you can say I told you so- and have to link to click on to prove it!

it's really hard to give up an addiction...and the Godol loves to teach. (looks at sky. tosses coin. tails.) hmmm, the Godol quits by Chanukah. erev is 24 Kislev.

I think he's going to bow out. His rebbetzin is giving him to much grief about the blog...which is totally understandable. My wife feels the same way (and I invest a fraction of time as the Godol).

How much do I wager? 18 NIS to a good cause in Israel. (preferably, the Gush Katif refugee funds)

the godol, who loves to teach, is a blog addict...i looked at the sky, flipped my quarter (tails)...the Godol moves on by erev Channuka. he will be missed, but he discovers a world beyond blogging.

Shifra...alot of us would like to konw about the symbolism regarding Havdalah. I mean, why do we use a candle with many wicks, why do we smell spices, why do we look at the reflection of the light in our fingernails, why can we use wine or other beverage, and what has all this to do with the end of shabbos. I mean, this is something you do about 52 times a year...why not enlighten us

I agree with Holy Hyrax...which is why I placed such a high wager.

If Shifra's the bookie, then what odds do I get on my wager?

Coming Soon: Shifraonlinegaming.com

At least then she could get a corner office in the casino.

I put down my life savings of $30 that he comes back in some form or another.

MOChassid bowed out, but he had a specific event that triggered it. My guess is that without a definite push(vague pressure wont do it) he will be on/off for quite a while. That being said, I will pay for a dikduk(not diqduq) consultation with Mar Gavriel, Lipman and Steg to the winner of the bet. I think he will be out before Thanksgiving(but I am not putting a year on it. :-))

Does that mean we have a Union now? Do we have to develop lists of standard rates?

Hmm he seems serious this time.

Steg-

FOr those of us who were allergic to the 'geveret' who insisted that dikduk was the cure to the world's ills, and that we would never amount to anything if we could not identify hipheel, hooophal, hootpael, nitpael, huufalump, and various other forms of written torture, I offer you may admiration for mastering(and even enjoying????) the misery I know as dikduk. Certainly if you need to have a union(I doubt there exists more than 3 or 4 people in the world who feel as you do about the topic, most would rather have bamboo stakes inserted under their finger nails) go ahead, and I am sure you can charge very high rates, but I dont know how much demand there will be.
