Mocking the Unwell or Oh, Shut UP!

So I've been off-blog for a while but it's for a good reason - I've been sick.

I have ummm... OK....well... I have Mono.... but please, don't go to any trouble, I've already heard all the jokes.

No, I'm not 19, yes I know it's called the kissing disease (I did go to High School you know) and unlike in HS where a case of Mono might actually improve your social standing, as an adult it just seems weird to people.

No, I don't know where I got it, I don't know anyone with Mono, I've never had it before and believe me as an adult it's no fun. I'm getting better though, finally.

I don't remember mono being any fun as a child either. (I got it from drinking out of the same glass as someone else, most likely, which definitely didn't improve my social standing.)

Feel better!

Feel better! I've never had it but I know a few who have, and they found it very unpleasant.

Oy. I was in my twenties when I got mono. It was no fun, and full recovery took a good while, so I can certainly understand why you haven't been posting. R'fuah shleimah, may you have a complete healing, preferably bi-m'heira b'karov (soon)!

Refu'oh shleimoh!

(I've never had mono[nucleosis], either.)

It's one of those things which you can't get twice, right?

At 10:40 AM, Blogger Elie said...

If you could get it twice, it would be called stereo, right?

:-)

Actually my doctor says you can get it more than once!

Also, some people will never get it even if they are exposed directly...

Interesting!

Mono is the kissing disease of teenagers, but it is the kiddush disease of adult orthodox Jews. My friend had it a couple of years ago and her doctor said it's all that double dipping and sneezing near the cholent.

It took my friend about 3 months to feel normal again. I hope you feel better soon.

Wow, sorry to hear that!

Interesting comment Baila. I will never drink from the shared kiddush cup again!

Shifra, I wish you a refuah shelemah, with lots of relaxation over the chagim : take it easy!
