New Job - Big Changes

Well here I am at the new job.
It's a little scary - OK a lot scary- and I haven't even gotten started yet.
I cannot access my Gmail or any free email from work since they are all blocked as non-work sites (but who knows, maybe I'll be able to find some obscure one somewhere) but oddly blogger seems to work - at least for now.

OK back to sitting around waiting for IT to give me access to the rest of the things I need to get my job done- don't want to attract too much attention on my first day.

UPDATE:
While blogger itself is not blocked all blogspot sites are (including my own!)
Not being able to check in on my blog or email all day is going to make this pretty tough.
I'm feeling pretty lonely already.

I have no sympathy for you. (but I still like you). At work one should be working.
If you've been given no work or too little work, ask for some more.

Oh man, give her a break...surfing is much better than hanging out at the 'water cooler' and shmoozing.

Hubby and I used to whip off little emails to each other when we didn't both work from home. Took no time and was a lot less distracting than talking on the phone. I would feel very lonely if I didn't have that.

But, I hope the job is great enough to make up for the loss of "fun" 'net access! Good luck!

Yet another good use for Reader's Digest. :)

Ah home sweet home.
New jobs are tough and their internet lockdown would make Lakewood proud!
SO some quick catching up on the comments:

Brutus: You are right, I should work at work. Hopefully as soon as everything is up and running I will have plenty to keep me busy. I will however be taking my lunch hour since I will not be taking email/blog breaks during the day - I think that's fair.

Eliyahu: Thanks, I was feeling pretty lonely today.

Frei - Thank you!
If you are going to waste time at work it is better to do it without disturbing others, I'll grant you that.

Projen- you and your husband BOTH work from home! WOW that's lucky! How do you keep from killing each other ;-)

Hubby - Believe me I always put in a days work. I'd never let my work suffer for any of my hobbies - it's just nice to take a mental stretch break here and there.

Step Ima - THANK YOU!

Ezzie - Once again I've struck a nerve - ironically with people reading my blog between 9 and 5...Thanks though.

Lab Rab- well now that you mention it my desk was a bit wobbly on one side- The Reader's Digest was just what I needed!

Mazel Tov.

Believe me, you're better off not having access to emails and blogs during work. I do some part time consulting and we have a similar websense thing there. It's amazing how much more productive I am.

maybe there's a new business model here: consultant for increased productivity. you get paid to develop a model of restricted internet access. might, however, have to ban blackberries & text messaging as well.

Reminds me of a headline from "The Onion" a few years back:

"Nationwide Internet Crash, Productivity Soars 800%"

Good luck with the new job!
Your blogger-blocker sounds like the one R' Neil has to deal with at his work.

Much success at your new job!

It may start to feel less lonely when you develop relationships with your coworkers, and have someone to talk to during breaks.

Jameel - I remember that one!
It's SO true!

To all the rest thanks so much!
Today was much better than yesterday.
I think this is a job I can really sink my teeth into!
